Faculty Of Science & Technology

Since its inception in 1994, AIUB has been at the forefront in Computing by producing technically skilled and competent IT Professionals to meet the needs of the local and international market. The faculty has experienced significant growth over the last few years and is now home of more than 100 full time faculty, with strong groups in theory, systems, graphics, media, programming languages, computational science, security, AI, Cloud Computing, IoT and robotics.

As a technology leader with roots in academia, FST are promised to equip our students with the right technology so that they can propel themselves into exciting and fulfilling careers. FST goal is to create a knowledge-based society where our graduates can impart into the rapidly changing technological challenges.

The journey of FST at AIUB began with the BSc in Computer Science and Engineering established by the honorable visionary founder of the University Dr. Anwarul Abedin. And to sustain the continuous development of the faculty and to meet the stakeholders’ requirements; it gradually offered 4 different programs currently.

Late Prof. Dr. Tafazzal Hossain

Professor, Department of Mathematics, FST, AIUB

Prof. Dr. Tafazzal Hossain was a prominent Bangladeshi academic and physicist, renowned for his significant contributions to education and research. He served as the Vice President of Academics and Dean of the Faculty of Science and Information Technology at the American International University-Bangladesh (AIUB). In addition, he held the position of Pro-Vice Chancellor at AIUB, where he was deeply involved in advancing the institution’s academic programs and research initiatives.
Before his tenure at AIUB, Dr. Hossain was a respected faculty member at the Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET), where he contributed to the Department of Physics. His academic journey was marked by numerous publications and research projects in the field of physics, showcasing his expertise and dedication to scientific inquiry.
Dr. Hossain was also actively involved in various seminars and conferences, often addressing topics related to nuclear energy and its prospects in Bangladesh. His insights and leadership in these areas underscored his commitment to promoting scientific knowledge and innovation in his home country.
Dr. Tafazzal Hossain passed away on January 27, 2024, in New York, USA, leaving behind a legacy of academic excellence and a profound impact on the educational institutions he served. His contributions to education and science continue to inspire students and academics alike.

Mashiour Rahman

Senior Associate Professor, Dean-in-charge , FST, AIUB

Mr. Mashiour Rahman is a prominent academic and the Dean-in-charge of the Faculty of Science and Technology at the American International University-Bangladesh (AIUB).

Mr. Mashiour Rahman leadership role as Dean-in-charge involves overseeing academic programs, guiding research initiatives, and mentoring both faculty and students to achieve their full potential. Rahman’s dedication to education is evident in his continuous efforts to integrate the latest technological advancements and research findings into the curriculum, ensuring that AIUB remains at the forefront of science and technology education in Bangladesh.

Prof. Dr. Dip Nandi

Professor, Associate Dean , FST, AIUB

Prof. Dr. Dip Nandi is working as Associate Dean in the faculty of science and technology in American International University-Bangladesh (AIUB). Prior to this, he served as the director of faculty of science and technology and head, undergraduate program in the department of computer science in AIUB. Prof. Dr. Dip Nandi has completed his PhD from RMIT university Australia, MSc from the University of Melbourne and BSc from American International University-Bangladesh. His research interests include E-Learning, AI, Data Science and Information Systems.

Prof. Dr. Khandaker Tabin Hasan

Professor, Head [graduate Program] , Department Of Computer Science

Prof. Dr. Tabin Hasan started his higher education at American International University – Bangladesh after passing his HSC examination from Notre Dame College. He further went to Sweden for his Masters degree at Royal Institute of Technology. While studying there, he was being offered a paid thesis at University of Trento, Italy. After the completion of his thesis work, he was offered another eight months of research fellowship following a PhD position as a recognition to his distinct research excellence. He was awarded his PhD degree on April 2011 and was welcomed home with a faculty position at prestigious AIUB.

Prof. Dr. Md. Rafiqul Islam

Professor, Faculty , Department Of Computer Science

Prof. Dr. Md Rafiqul Islam obtained his Ph.D. degree in Computer Science from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) in 1999 and a combined Master (MS) and bachelor’s degree in engineering (Computers) from Azerbaijan Polytechnic Institute (Azerbaijan Technical University at present) in 1987. He was a postdoctoral fellow (postdoctoral researcher) in Japan Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (JAIST) in 2001. He worked as head of the Discipline of Computer Science and Engineering of Khulna University and as Dean of the School of Science, Engineering and Technology of Khulna University. He worked as a professor in the Discipline of computer Science and Engineering Discipline, Khulna University from May 2005 to October 2009. Next, he worked as a Professor in the Department of Computer Science of American International University-Bangladesh (AIUB) from October, 2009 to September, 2014. He is a senior professor (professor grade 1) of Computer Science and Engineering Discipline at Khulna University, Khulna, Bangladesh.

Dr. S. A. M. Manzur H. Khan

Associate Professor, Proctor , Department Of Computer Science

Dr. Manzur H Khan is working as a Proctor and Associate Professor in the Department of Computer Science of the American International University-Bangladesh (AIUB). He completed his Bachelor and Master of Science Degree in Physics from the University of Dhaka in 1999. In 2001, he completed his Master of Science in Business Information Technology from the University of Westminster, UK. Manzur joined the American International University-Bangladesh (AIUB) as a faculty member of the Department of Computer Science in 2002 and has been teaching numerous undergraduate and postgraduate courses since then. His area of specialization is Management Information Systems with emphasis on System Analysis and Design, Information System Management, Software Engineering, Database, and Technology Acceptance.

Mr. Md. Manirul Islam

Associate Professor, Director , Department Of Computer Science

With over 20 years of experience in the IT domain, Mr. Md. Manirul Islam has developed specialization in both the practical and theoretical aspects of cybersecurity, network architecture, and the evolving landscape of digital security challenges. As a dedicated educator and researcher, he is passionate about conducting impactful research to enhance academic excellence and innovation.

Prof. Dr. Mohammed Jashim Uddin

Professor, Convenor [research And Publication] , Department Of Mathematics

Currently Prof. Dr. Mohammed Jashim Uddin is working as a Professor of Mathematics Department at American International University-Bangladesh. He also worked as a visiting researcher and visiting Professor at Universiti Sains Malaysia (an appex research University in Malaysia) in the School of Mathematical Sciences. His career with AIUB started in 2000. He obtained his Bachelor and Masters degrees from Shajajal University of Science and Technology, Sylhet, Bangladesh, MPhil degree from BUET, and Ph.D from Universiti Sains Malaysia, Penang 11800 Malaysia. He has published more than 120 publications in refereed journals (most of them are ISI) and international conferences. Four of his students already completed their Ph.D under his supervision (co-supervisor) in USM. He has also served as a external examiner of TWO Ph.D thesis (INDIAN) and also external examiner of two M.Phil students (BUET, Bangladesh). He also worked on two projects funded by USM. He is also working with many co-authors form USA, UK, Canada, Pakistan, India, Malaysia etc.. Some of his colleagues are also working with him. His research interests are: complex transport phenomena for regular fluid, nanofluid, nanobio-fluid, Lie group theory, bioconvection, electromagneto-convective flow, semi-analytical methods and computational fluid dynamics.

Prof. Dr. Rezaul K. Siddique

Professor, Faculty , Department Of Natural Science [physics]

Prof. Dr. Rezaul K. Siddque was born in Tangail, Bangladesh in 1952. Studied in high school and college in Mymensingh and Faridpur respectively and passed SSC and HSC in First Divisions.. Completed B.Sc. Honours and M.Sc. degrees in Physics with First Classes at the University of Dhaka. Later on, received M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Physics from the University of Louisville (Kentucky) and the University of Cincinnati (Ohio), USA respectively. In addition to working as a Lecturer in Physics at the University of Dhaka, he also worked as a faculty in a number of universities in the USA. The last one being at Dakota State University in South Dakota (USA) before returning to Bangladesh. Upon return to Bangladesh in 2004, Dr. Rezaul joined AIUB in September and have been there ever since as a Professor.

Prof. Dr. S. Mosaddeq Ahmed

Professor, Department Head , Department Of Natural Science [chemistry]

Prof. Dr. S. Mosaddeq Ahmed was born in Feni, Bangladesh in September 13, 1966. He was grown up at his village home until June, 1982 and completed SSC. Then he moved to Dhaka for higher studies where his father was doing a Govt. job and passed HSC in 1984. Dr. Ahmed completed his B.Sc. in 1987 and M.Sc. in Applied Chemistry & Chemical Technology in 1989 (held in 1993) from the University of Dhaka. He worked on the “Utilization of Saw-dust” for M.Sc. Thesis under the supervision of Prof. S. S. M. A. Khorasani (Jan-Dec, 1993). He was the first recipient of Bangladesh Chemical and Biological Society of North America (BCBSNA) graduate scholarship (Dec 1995-Nov 1996) and continued research works in Organic Chemistry, University Dhaka for his M.Phil. leading to Ph.D. program.

Professor, Associate Dean , FST, AIUB

Prof. Dr. Dip Nand is working as the Associate Dean in the Faculty of Science and Technology in American International University-Bangladesh (AIUB). Prior to this, he served as the Director, Faculty of Science and Technology and Head, undergraduate in the Department of Computer Science in AIUB. He has Completed his PHD From RMIT University Australia, MSC from the University of Melbourne and BSC from AIUB. His Research Interest includes E-Learning, AI, Data Science and Information Systems.

Dr. Muhammad Firoz Mridha

Associate Professor, Faculty , Department Of Computer Science

Dr. M. F. Mridha (Senior Member, IEEE) is currently working as an Associate Professor in the Department of Computer Science, American International University-Bangladesh (AIUB). Before that he worked as Associate Professor and Chairman in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering, Bangladesh University of Business and Technology (BUBT). He also worked as a CSE department faculty member at the University of Asia Pacific and as a graduate head from 2012 to 2019. He received his Ph.D. in AI/ML from Jahangirnagar University in the year 2017. His research experience, within both academia and industry, results in over 120 journal and conference publications. His research work contributed to the reputed Journal of Scientific Reports Nature, Knowledge-Based Systems, Artificial Intelligence Review, IEEE Access, Sensors, Cancers, Biology and Applied Sciences etc. His research interests include artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning, deep learning, and natural language processing (NLP). For more than 10 (Ten) years, he has been with the masters and undergraduate students as a supervisor of their thesis work. His research interests include artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning, natural language processing (NLP), big data analysis, etc.

Dr. Afroza Nahar

Associate Professor, Faculty , Department Of Computer Science

Dr. Afroza Nahar holds a distinguished academic background, having obtained her PhD from the University of Malaya, Malaysia. Prior to this, she achieved a master’s degree in computer science from the renowned Asian Institute of Technology (AIT), Thailand, as well as another master’s in Applied Mathematics from University of Dhaka, Bangladesh. Currently, she is serving as a faculty member in the Department of Computer Science at American International University-Bangladesh (AIUB). Her scholarly contributions have been highly recognized, with numerous research works published in reputable journals indexed by the ISI and boasting high impact factors. Additionally, she has presented her research findings at prestigious international conferences. Dr. Nahar has made significant contributions to the field of Computational Modelling of PV/T systems, with her research papers primarily featured in the distinguished ISI Q1 journals. Her research interests span various domains, including Computational Modelling, Renewable Energy Systems, Distributed Computing, and Wireless Sensor Networks, Machine learning etc. Dr. Nahar awarded as a Best Researcher PHC 2021. She published a number of research papers in ISI-indexed high impact factor journals and presented many of her papers in prestigious international conferences. She worked as an editorial member in the International Journal of Renewable Energy Research (IJRER). She reviewed many technical articles in reputed journals like Energy Research, Solar Energy. Renewable Energy, Alexandria Engineering Journal, etc. Dr. Nahar is the founding joint secretary of the Association of Bangladeshi Women in Mathematics (ABWM) and a life member of Bangladesh Mathematical Society (BMS).

Currently, he is working as a Professor (senior) in the department of Computer Science of AIUB, He has 32 years of teaching and research experience. He supervised Ph.D., Masters as well as Undergraduate students to accomplish their theses. Currently he is supervising several Ph.D. and masters students and working as a member of doctoral research committee for several Ph.D. students. He has published 144 papers, which include book, international and national journals as well as refereed international conference proceedings have been published by reputed publishers such as IEEE, Elsevier, Springer, Willey, Hindawi etc. His research areas include design and analysis of algorithms in the area of optimization, bioinformatics, image processing, secure cloud computing, external sorting, information security, network security, data compression, grid computing, cloud computing, smart city, etc. Currently, he is doing research on the optimization process using metaheuristic algorithms. Recently a good number of papers have been published by him in international journals with high impact factors. A list of publications has been included in research and publication.

Dr. Md. Asraf Ali

Professor, Faculty , Department Of Computer Science

Prof. Dr. Md. Asraf Ali is currently working at American International University-Bangladesh (AIUB) as Professor in the Department of Computer Science under the Faculty of Science and Technology. He is actively involved in research in the field of Biological Signal Processing, Big data and Machine Learning. As his research outcomes, he has more than 50 research publications which are published in ISI/SCOPUS indexed Journal or Conference. Additionally, he is involve for doing research oriented community service works like Reviewer, Session Chair, Technical Committee member (TPC), TPC Chair of various International Journals and Conferences. Moreover, he is also doing research oriented voluntary works like External Examiner for evaluating PhD Thesis for various universities in India. Actually, Prof. Asraf has started his career journey in January 2001 as Lecturer at BCMC College of Engineering and Technology, Jessore, Bangladesh after completing his BSc & MSc degrees in Computer Science from University of Madras, Chennai, India. Later, he has been promoted to Assistant Professor and served as Head for the Department of Computer Science and Engineering and as well as Head for the Faculty of Science and Engineering until September 2005. Then, he joined at Bangladesh University (BU), Dhaka as Lecturer in the Department Computer Science and Engineering under the Faculty of Science, Engineering and Technology. Later, he has been promoted to Assistant Professor and then Associate Professor . He worked at BU until August 2015 and during his service period at BU, he was in study leave (around 4 years) for pursuing PhD degree in Biomedical Electronic Engineering from Universiti Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP). Later, he joined at Daffodil International University (DIU), Dhaka in September 2015 as Associate Professor in the Department of Software Engineering under the Faculty of Science and Information Technology. He worked at DIU until October 10, 2020, where he also acted as Head in Charge, Department of Software Engineering for a while.

Mashiour Rahman

Dr. Md. Habib Ullah

Associate Professor, Faculty , Department Of Natural Science [physics]

Prof. Dr. Md. Habib Ullah received his B.Sc. (Honors) and M.Sc. degrees in Physics and Solid State Physics in 1994 and 1996, respectively, from the university of Rajshahi, Bangladesh. He conducted research on Glass and Glass-ceramics in his M.Sc. degree. He performed his research as research officer and senior research officer (R&D) in Monno Ceramic Ltd. (MCL) and China-Bangla Ceramic (CBC) from 1997 to 2003. In the year of 2003, he joined as a doctorate fellow with full scholarship at the National Research Laboratory (NRL) of Nano Information Materials, Department of Polymer Science and Engineering, Pusan National University (PNU), Pusan, Korea. He received his Ph.D. degree from PNU in February, 2007 and was appointed as a postdoctoral researcher in NRL. He joined AIUB in 2008 where he is currently working as an Associate Professor in the Department of Physics. His current research interests include nanostructured materials, such as doped and undoped metal and semiconductor nanomaterials, organic-inorganic core-shell materials, organic/polymer-inorganic hybrid nanocomposites, and thin films. Dr. Md. Habib Ullah’s research interests also encompass glasses and glass-ceramics, including their synthesis, properties, and applications. He has contributed to 26 publications in international journals. Furthermore, he holds a notable record of intellectual property, with one patent to his name. Additionally, he has made significant contributions to the academic discourse with four book chapters in renowned publications by IntechOpen, Elsevier and CRC press (Taylor & Francis Group).

Dr. Mohammad Mahbub Rabbani

Associate Professor, Deputy Director [dr. Anwarul Abedin Institute Of Innovation] , Department Of Natural Science [chemistry]

Dr. Mohammad Mahbub Rabbani is currently working at American International University-Bangladesh, as Associate Professor in the Department of Natural Science (Chemistry). He has achieved my Doctoral Degree in Informatics and Materials Engineering (Nanotechnology) in 2011 from Dong-Eui University, Busan, South Korea. Later He worked as Post-Doctoral researcher in Kyungpook National University, Daegu, South Korea and Inha University, Incheon, South Korea, till April 2015. His research interests include nanomaterials synthesis and their characterization, Carbon Nanotubes (CNTs) nanocomposites, electrospinning, Quantum dots, Carbon dots, nanofibers, Solar Cells etc. He has published ~24 research articles in different national and international journals and contributed three chapters in three separate books published from Croatia, Japan and Switzerland. He attended several national and international conference/symposium held in different cities of South Korea and Japan and presented His work orally or by poster. Before going abroad for higher study, He did his Master degree and Bachelor degree in Chemistry from University of Chittagong, Bangladesh. He has passion to do my best for the elevation of science education, especially Nanotechnology and STEM education, in our country, He has been graduated from nanotechnology discipline, so he like to do research, to teach and popularize nanotechnology in Bangladesh. So, he initiated to form Bangladesh Nano Society (BNS) and currently serving as General Secretary of BNS executive committee. He was involved in establishing Center for Nanotechnology Research (CNR) at AIUB and currently serving as in-Charge of CNR. Before that, He introduced “Nanotechnology for Engineers” Course for Engineering Students and conducting classes for more than two years. He is involved in organizing International Symposium on Nanotechnology at AIUB (ISN2020 & ISN2022). He has been elected president of Bangladesh STEM Foundation (bdSTEM), at AIUB local committee and I am actively involved in activities taken by bdSTEM national Committee. He is a peace loving person. He likes to tell the truth and help the mankind. He does not like any unnecessary noise, shout or chaos. Above all I prefer humanity first. Hence, we have established a human rights organization named “Legal Support and People’s Rights Foundation (LSPR) (registration No. 13047) and He has been elected the Vice Chairman. He has also been appointed an adviser of a social organization named “Shekhor” established at his hometown. He was born in a village named Pattasharif, located in Chunarughat Upazilla of Habiganj district. From his early life he has been interactive, and he like to communicate with his relatives and friends. He likes to meet people and share views and feelings. Besides his academic purposes, he likes to write essays, articles, opinions, poems, stories on various issues and themes. Some of his write-ups have been published in our national dailies, Dong-Eui University newspaper and different news portals. He likes to read books including poems, novels, essays etc. Traveling is his other hobby. During his stay in South Korea he visited most of the well-known places of South Korea. He also visited several places in Japan, Nepal, China and India.

Dr Mohammad Saidur Rahman

Dr Mohammad Saidur Rahman is completed his Ph.D. in Computer Science in August 2020 from RMIT University in the area of data privacy. Currently, He is working as a Lecturer in the School of Computing Technologies at RMIT University, Melbourne, VIC, Australia. Earlier, He worked as a Postdoctoral Research Associate in the School of Computing Technologies, at RMIT University. His current research area includes cybersecurity, blockchain, IoT, and privacy-preserving machine learning.

He also have been involved in teaching several courses in the area of cybersecurity, blockchain, programming, and cloud computing. He have more than 5 years of tertiary-level teaching experience at Australian universities, mainly at RMIT University, Monash University, and Monash College. In addition, He have more than 7 years of teaching experience (3 years as a Lecturer and 4 years as a Senior Lecturer) overseas teaching experience.

Dr. Mohammad Saiedur Rahaman

Lecturer Central Queensland University (CQU), Australia

Dr. Saiedur Rahaman earned his PhD in Computer Science from the School of Computing Technologies at RMIT University, Australia, supported by an ARC linkage grant. Following this, he served as a level-B research fellow at the Data Science discipline within RMIT’s School of Computing Technologies. His research primarily centered on developing technologies for sensing and connecting the physical world, and employing machine/deep learning techniques for analyzing multi-modal time-series data in pervasive environments. He has successfully supervised PhD students to completion and currently involved in research supervision in the field of Data Science and AI. As a recognized ICT educator, he taught data science and AI at RMIT and University of Adelaide before joining CQUniversity. Additionally, he held a lecturer (assistant professor) position at the School of Computer Science, AIUB, Bangladesh, before moving to Australia.

Dr. Tanvir Ahmed Masum

Dr. Tanvir Ahmed Masum is a Lecturer at the University of Central Florida’s Department of Computer Science. With over a decade of experience, he specializes in teaching undergraduate courses ranging from programming fundamentals to advanced algorithms and machine learning. Previously, he served as a Research Fellow at the FDA, focusing on biomedical informatics and data science. Prior to that, he worked as a Data Scientist at RadioAnalyzer, where he analyzed large datasets and implemented ETL operations for radio listener data. Dr. Masum holds a Ph.D. in Computer Science from Aalborg University, where his research centered on mitigating risks in RFID baggage handling systems. He also served as a Visiting Researcher at the Université libre de Bruxelles, exploring risk factors in RFID baggage handling data. With expertise in data analytics, machine learning, and algorithm development, Dr. Masum is dedicated to bridging theory and practice in computer science and data science.

Dr. Sheikh Shaugat Abdullah is a Data Science Specialist with extensive experience in healthcare research and academia. Currently a Research Analyst at London Health Sciences Centre (LHSC), he previously served as a Postdoctoral Researcher at ICES. Dr. Abdullah’s academic journey began at Western University, where he worked as both a Research and Teaching Assistant.
