Prof. Dr. Tazul Islam

Professor, Dean , Faculty Of Arts And Social Science

Prof. Dr. Tazul Islam is a Professor and the Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, American International University-Bangladesh. He was a Research Fellow in the University of Auckland, New Zealand. He was also Post-doctoral Research Fellow of the Japan Society for the Promotion of science (JSPS) at the University of Tokyo, and also a Visiting Scholar at the Center for Southeast Asian Studies, University of Kyoto, Japan. He has done extensive research on “Microfinance and Poverty Alleviation”. He has written a book entitled, “Microcredit and Poverty Alleviation”, published by the Ashgate Publishing Limited, United Kingdom, and contributed articles to several professional journals. He has proven to be a fine scholar, endowed with the habits of hard work, conscientiousness and high achievement. His Ph.D thesis was not only passed by two distinguished external examiners, but was highly commended by them, to the extent that his Ph.D thesis was nominated for a Vice- Chancellor Award for best thesis in the year of completion. Considering his involvement in community development, he was appointed a Justice of the Peace of New Zealand. This is illustrative of the high regard he is held in, both by his own Bangladesh community and the New Zealand system at large.

Prof. Dr. Shaheen Akter

Professor, Faculty , Department Of Economics

Prof. Dr. Shaheen Akter is currently a Professor of Economics at the American International University Bangladesh specializing in applied economics, development and agricultural economics with extensive senior leadership and management experience. She holds a PhD in agricultural economics from the Wye College (Imperial College) of the London University UK where she conducted econometric analyses of market surplus and food policy with a country-wide agrifood marketing dataset. She has vast experience in higher education teaching and consultancy industries. Earlier she was a professor in the Economics Department of Shahjalal University of Science and Technology, offering courses on, amongst others, microeconomics, agricultural economics and econometrics for undergraduate and graduate students. She advanced her econometric/economic analysis skills in applied economics and social research by accomplishing research, teaching, and consultancy for more than 30 years. During this time, she designed and delivered many projects, led data collection and analysis, conducted randomized controlled trials, prepared reports according to plan and published papers that include econometric modelling. She gained 15 years of teaching experience in four universities in the UK, Papua New Guinea and Bangladesh. She had field positions in Bangladesh, Ethiopia, Ghana, England, Vietnam, Papua New Guinea and Brazil. She travelled to many other countries to communicate her research results in workshops, seminars and conferences. She engaged in research design in European FP7, British Academy, ESRC, EPSRC, MAS, UNESCO, ILRI, UNFP, FAO and World funding projects, and was also involved in various stages of survey, data collection, analysis, and production of reports/publications.

Dr. Faria Sultana

Senior Assistant Professor, Department Head , Department Of Economics

Dr. Faria Sultana has a diverse range of experience in academia and research. She serves as the Head of the Department of Economics and Senior Assistant Professor at the American International University-Bangladesh (AIUB), where she has been working full time since September 2019. In her role, she contributes her expertise and knowledge to the university’s academic environment. Dr. Faria Sultana holds a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree, which was conferred upon her by Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) in October 2018. Her doctoral research focused on Health Economics, specifically conducting a health economic analysis on cost-effective options for the diabetic population in developing countries. In addition to her PhD, Dr. Sultana completed a master’s degree in political economy at Xiamen University, China, and a bachelor’s degree in economics at the North South University, Bangladesh. Her master’s thesis explored the migration and poverty scenario in Asia, encompassing both internal and international migration. During her undergraduate studies, she conducted research on the topic of social safety nets in Bangladesh. Faria’s research experience also extends to her time as a Former Researcher at the Bangladesh Enterprise Institute (BEI). From October 2010 to January 2015, she actively participated in research activities and contributed her insights to the institute’s projects. She has been a part of research projects on diverse issues like Migration, Governance, Regional Trade Facilitation, Technical and Vocational Education Training Sector, Right to Information Act and E- Health in Bangladesh.

Prof. Dr. ABM Rahmatullah

Professor, Faculty , Department Of Economics

Prof. Dr. ABM Rahmatullah is currently a professor of Economics Department at the American International University—Bangladesh. Having completed his Bachelor degree in Economics from Fergusson College, Pune, India, he went on to successfully complete the Master of Arts in Economics from University of Pune, having stood first class first with distinction. After returning Dhaka, he started his career with British Council Trade section, and took admission at IBA, University of Dhaka, for MBA program. During the last semester at IBA, he received Monbusho scholarship and left IBA for his doctoral program at University of Tsukuba, Japan. After completing Master of Economics from the University of Tsukuba, he then completed the doctoral program in Development Economics from University of Tsukuba. he was at International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI), Washington D.C, USA, for a brief period to conduct research on development Economics. Besides his specialization in Economics, over the last 8 years, he has been working on Quality Assurance (QA) in higher education. He has attended several national and international conferences on QA, and actively participated and positively contributed to ensure quality assurance becomes an integral part of Internal Quality Assurance (IQA) in higher education. He has experience and considerable knowledge of ISO standards. He has been working on Quality Policy and different scope of ISO standards in higher education. He has been to different public and private universities in Bangladesh to conduct several sessions over there on self-assessment process and requirements to prepare self-assessment report. He served as a resource person and external peer reviewer on quality assurance to different universities.

Dr. Buddha Dev Biswas

Associate Professor, Department Head , Department Of Social Science

Dr. Buddha Dev Biswas is currently an Associate Professor & Head at the Department of Social Science in American International University-Bangladesh. As an ICCR Scholar, he obtained both his M.Phil. and Ph.D. degrees in Sociology from Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), New Delhi, from 1994 to 2001. Prior to that, he successfully completed his B.S.S (Honors) and master’s in social Welfare from the University of Dhaka. A meritorious student since his childhood, Buddha Dev was throughout the first boy from Class One to class Ten and got scholarship in Secondary Scholarship Examination. He organized all sorts of events related to the socio political and cultural traditions of Bangladesh that fostered the country’s image among the international fraternity. In his professional career, Dr. Buddha Dev gathered a wide range of experience in the NGO arena.

Prof. Dr. Taslima Monsoor

Advisor, Faculty , Department Of Law

Prof. Dr. Taslima Monsoor is the Former Chairman and Dean of the Faculty of Law of Dhaka University. She did her PhD from the University of London. She was awarded a Commonwealth Post Doctoral Fellowship at the University of London. She was awarded the Fulbright Specialist Exchange Program in 2007 to teach at the University of Penn State Altoona. 2008 she was awarded a Fellow of the Nippon Foundation for the Salzburg Global Seminar, Austria. She has also taught at the Academy of Islamic Studies in 2009 at the University of Malaya, Kuala Lumpur. In 1999 she wrote a book titled “From Patriarchy to Gender Equity, Family Law and its Impact on Women in Bangladesh”. In 2005 she wrote another book titled “Judiciary and Gender on Trial: Reported and Unreported Decisions of the Family Courts”. In 2008 she has written two books: “Gender Equity and Economic Empowerment: Family Law and Women in Bangladesh” and “Management of Gender Relations: Violence Against Women and the Criminal Justice System in Bangladesh”. She has contributed numerous articles to national and international journals. Her area of interest is Family Law, Human Rights, Judiciary, Gender, Environment and Developmental issues.

Dr. Syeda Afroza Zerin

Associate Professor, Department Head , Department Of Law

Dr. Syeda Afroza Zerin has an impressive academic background, having completed her LL.B. (Hon’s), LL.M, and PhD in Family Law from the University of Dhaka, a prestigious institution in Bangladesh. With a strong dedication to teaching, she has chosen a career path in academia, spanning over two decades. Despite tempting opportunities in other fields, her passion for education has been unwavering. Throughout her career, Dr. Zerin has taught at various prominent law schools in Bangladesh such as BRAC University, BUBT, Stamford University, and American International University-Bangladesh. Her teaching journey of 26 years has been enriched by diverse experiences in these institutions. Dr. Zerin is also an accomplished author, having written two books on Mineral Laws and Specific Relief. She has contributed a book chapter on Migration, published by ELCOP, and has numerous articles in both national and international journals. Her scholarly contributions extend further with several paper write-ups on various legal issues. In addition to her academic and scholarly pursuits, Dr. Zerin has actively participated in numerous national and international conferences. She remains enthusiastic about continuing her engagement in such activities in the future.

Dr. Muhammad Wasif Alam

Department Head, Faculty , Department Of Public Health

Dr. Muhammad Wasiful Alam is currently the Faculty and Head of the Department of Public Health at American International University – Bangladesh (AIUB). With a distinguished career in academia and public health, he has held various prestigious roles globally. He serves as a Visiting Professor at Baltimore City Community College and as a Visiting Researcher and Supervisor for the MPhil Program at Bangladesh University of Professionals (BUP). He was also an Associate Faculty at Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. Dr. Alam has extensive teaching experience, including five years as an Assistant Professor of Global Health at the University of Tampa and a year-long postdoctoral fellowship in Occupational Medicine at the University of South Florida. He led the Diarrhea Control Center, a joint initiative by ICDDR, B and the Saudi MOH under the WHO Program, for five years. His administrative roles include leading the COVID-19 Program at Baltimore City Health Department, directing the Department of Public Health & Safety at Dubai Health Authority, and heading the Occupational Health Program at the Supreme Council of Health in Qatar. Dr. Alam has published 25 journal papers, 40 conference papers, and 8 book chapters, securing multiple research grants. Dr. Alam holds a PhD in Health Promotion from North America, a Post Doc in Occupational Medicine and an MSPH from the University of South Florida. He earned his MD in Internal Medicine from Johns Hopkins Hospital and an MBBS from Dhaka Medical College.

Dr. Sabuktagin Rahman

Associate Professor, Department Of Public Health

Dr Sabuktagin Rahman is an Associate Professor at the Department of Public Health, American International University-Bangladesh (AIUB). His career in public health spans over 22 years involved in academia, research and the development sector. His area of interest is public health nutrition with emphasis in micronutrients, anemia, dietary assessment, epidemiology, biostatistics, surveys, surveillance, experimental studies, mixed-methods studies, health programs, teaching, training and academic supervision. Predominantly as the lead author, he published more than 40 original research articles in the high-end peer reviewed journals (citations>600, h-index 11). Prior to joining AIUB, he had worked for the BRAC James P. Grant School of Public Health, BRAC University, Griffith University, ICDDR,B Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition and Save the Children. He received research grants amounting to nearly 4 million USD from UNICEF, USAID, EU/UKAID, CARE International and Nestle Foundation. Dr Rahman led several national activities at the policy level and helped the GoB for formulation of health and nutrition policies and the national capacity building.

Afroza Sultana

Assistant Professor, Temporary Coordinator , Department Of Media And Mass Communication

Afroja Shoma achieved Masud Khan Gold Medal for securing 1st class 1st position in M.S.S. final examination in the Dept. of Mass Communication and Journalism, University of Dhaka in 2008. She completed her B.S.S from the same department in 2007. Afroja Shoma is a journalism and communication educator with 16 years of experience in journalism and media that blends diverse platforms— radio, TV & newspaper. Including international news outlets BBC News Bangla and Deutsche Welle (DW), she worked with several other Bangladeshi radio, TV and newspapers such as Radio Today, Desh TV, Jamuna TV, Dhaka Tribune, Focus Bangla and Prothom Alo. Hundreds of her reports were aired and published by BBC Bangla, Deutsche Welle, Radio Today, Focus Bangla and Prothom Alo. She gained her experience as a news broadcaster (field reporting, desk reporting, news moderation, editing, translation and interviewing) at BBC News Bangla while she acquired skills as guest Editor at Deutsche Welle. Besides, she worked as the regular talk show presenter at Desh TV’s flagship talk show ‘Desher Kotha Dosher Kotha’ for one and half years from November 2020 to March 2022. She is an enlisted program presenter at the Bangladesh Television since 2008. Ms. Shoma is a poet, essayist and gender & media researcher who authored six books. Her book, a collection of essays, on gender and media titled ‘Beshya O Bidushir Golpo’ created a mentionable vibe in the community. Her research works have been published by Routledge’s journal India Review and other Bangladeshi journals. She presented her research papers in local and international conferences and webinars. Afroja Shoma participated in dozens of gender-talk as trainer, speaker and discussant in home and abroad. Her columns on gender and media have been published in BBC Bangla, Prothom Alo, Channel I, Desh Rupantor, Daily Samakal, Daily Sangbad among other outlets.

Dr. Prodhan Mahbub Ibna Seraj

Associate Professor, Faculty , Department Of English

Dr. Prodhan Mahbub Ibna Seraj has been working as an Associate Professor at the Department of English, American International University Bangladesh (AIUB). He completed his Ph.D. in Teaching English as a Second Language (TESL) at the Faculty of Education, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM), and M. A in Applied Linguistics & ELT from the University of Dhaka. He has achieved the BEST POSTGRADUATE STUDENT AWARD (Ph.D. program) at the 66th UTM Convocation for his outstanding research work. He is particularly interested in how technology could assist English Language Teaching (ELT). He published 51 research articles, chapters and conference papers in prestigious national and international peer reviewed journals, including Scopus and Web of Science indexed, e.g., Heliyon (Elsevier), Journal of Psycholinguistic Research (Springer), Language Testing in Asia (Elsevier), International Journal of Sustainability in Higher Education (Emerald), Sustainability (MDPI), Asian EFL Journal, MEXTESOL Journal (MEXTESOL, Mexico), International Journal of Interactive Mobile Technologies (Kassel University Press GmbH, Germany), etc. He has reviewed 212 manuscripts of 51 different international journals, mostly indexed in Scopus and Web of Science. He is a member of the editorial board of 14 Scopus and Web of Science indexed journals.

Dr. Md. Asif Kamal

Associate Professor, Member [research & Publication Steering Committee] , Department Of English

Dr. Md. Asif Kamal is an Associate Professor working in the Department of English, American International University-Bangladesh (AIUB) since September 2009. He completed his MA in English from Jahangirnagar University and now teaches English literature and language courses. He has been in teaching career for the last 15 years. He is also involved in research activities. Several of his research articles are published in different referred national and international journals. He contributed as a book chapter writer in The Routledge Handbook of English Language Education in Bangladesh published by Routledge in 2021. He also co-authored a book titled English for Academic Purposes 2: Essay and Report Writing Module which is an English language book for English classes in higher education institutions of Bangladesh published in 2017 by University Grant Commission of Bangladesh and supported by British Council under TELSHEB project. He is also a trained master trainer of this project. He is an alumni of International Visitors Leadership Program (IVLP) 2023 run by American Embassy Bangladesh and funded by State Department of the USA. He presented papers in different local and international conferences in Bangladesh, Australia, Malaysia, Thailand, Turkey, Russia, India and Nepal. He has achieved his PhD on Relevance of Content and Language Integrated Learning (CLIL) in undergraduate English literature classes from Bangladesh University of Professionals.

Rani Ellen V. Ramos

Lecturer (Animator), Faculty , Department Of Media And Mass Communication

Ms. Rani took up a bachelor’s degree Major in Fine Arts at the College of the Holy Spirit in Mendiola, Manila, Philippines. Her 3D animation career started when she joined her former mentor’s post-production house and spent her time studying the many facets in creating TV commercials and audio-visual presentations. This was when she became interested in computer graphics, specifically 3D Production, which became her chosen specialization. And from being a junior artist, she became a Unit Head, a CG Supervisor, and a Production Manager. She has done TV commercials, series, movies, direct to video films, motion capture for games, and virtual reality. One of her notable accomplishments was directing a short full 3D film entitled “Sticks” that was included in the Children’s Category Exhibition at the Hiroshima Animation Festival in 1999. She also trained artists in broadcast networks like ABSCBN, GMA 7, and ABC5. Rani has also joined the world of academe and taught 3D animation and production pipeline in the College of St. Benilde – School of Design and Arts, iAcademy, and currently an animation, coordinator at the American International University – Bangladesh.

Md. Hamidul Haque

Senior Assistant Professor, Department Head , Department Of English

Mr. Hamidul Haque has been involved in teaching and developing English Language courses for Engineering, Business students at tertiary level for his institution. He was actively involved in developing EAP and ESP materials. He also worked as English Language Teacher Trainer and conducted workshops different parts of Bangladesh. He worked as consultant in several national level ELT projects. His research interests include Second Language Acquisition of English, Sociolinguistics, Task Based ESP/EAP materials development, etc. He is currently serving as the Vice President of TESOL Society of Bangladesh.

Farhana Afroz

Ms. Farhana Afroz has been involved in teaching and developing Bangladesh Studies course for Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, Engineering, Business Students for American International University of Bangladesh (AIUB), a leading private university in Bangladesh. She also worked as a Resource Person at Press Institute of Bangladesh (PIB), Information Commission and have conducted training and workshop to the professional journalists all over the country.

Shaira Matin

Senior Assistant Professor, Faculty , Department Of Social Science

Shaira Matin currently working as an Senior Assistant Professor in the Department of Social Science under Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, American International University Bangladesh (AIUB). She has completed her Honors and Masters in Sociology from Dhaka University. Her areas of interest are Gender and Development and also Cultural Diversity. She has Fifteen years of teaching experience in three leading Private Universities of Bangladesh. From the very beginning of her teaching, she taught different courses at different levels of undergraduate Programs. She has three Publications in two journals. She is one of the Founder Member and Treasurer of one National Social Development Organization, named Professional Women’s Association (ProWA). She had the experience of arranging co-curricular events like Foundation Program, Independence Day program, Victory Day program, Boishakhi Mela, etc. in the previous Universities. She intends to involve herself more in social Work in future along with her professional career. She believes that life is full of possibilities, and we should try our level best to grasp the best out of it.

Carlin Nolle Zita Lamagna completed her SSC and HSC from St. John Academy. She completed her bachelors in 1998 from American International University – Bangladesh. She completed her MBA in 2004 from the University of Wollongong. Currently she is working as the Senior Assistant Professor at AIUB.

She has also taught at the Academy of Islamic Studies in 2009 at the University of Malaya, Kuala Lumpur. In 1999 she wrote a book titled “From Patriarchy to Gender Equity, Family Law and its Impact on Women in Bangladesh”. In 2005 she wrote another book titled “Judiciary and Gender on Trial: Reported and Unreported Decisions of the Family Courts”. In 2008 she has written two books: “Gender Equity and Economic Empowerment: Family Law and Women in Bangladesh” and “Management of Gender Relations: Violence Against Women and the Criminal Justice System in Bangladesh”. Dr. Syeda Afroza Zerin

Associate Professor, Department Head , Department Of Law

Dr. Syeda Afroza Zerin has an impressive academic background, having completed her LL.B. (Hon’s), LL.M, and PhD in Family Law from the University of Dhaka, a prestigious institution in Bangladesh. With a strong dedication to teaching, she has chosen a career path in academia, spanning over two decades. Despite tempting opportunities in other fields, her passion for education has been unwavering. Throughout her career, Dr. Zerin has taught at various prominent law schools in Bangladesh such as BRAC University, BUBT, Stamford University, and American International University-Bangladesh. Her teaching journey of 26 years has been enriched by diverse experiences in these institutions. Dr. Zerin is also an accomplished author, having written two books on Mineral Laws and Specific Relief. She has contributed a book chapter on Migration, published by ELCOP, and has numerous articles in both national and international journals. Her scholarly contributions extend further with several paper write-ups on various legal issues. In addition to her academic and scholarly pursuits, Dr. Zerin has actively participated in numerous national and international conferences. Dr. Muhammad Wasif Alam

Dr. Muhammad Wasiful Alam is currently the Faculty and Head of the Department of Public Health at American International University – Bangladesh (AIUB). With a distinguished career in academia and public health, he has held various prestigious roles globally. He serves as a Visiting Professor at Baltimore City Community College and as a Visiting Researcher and Supervisor for the MPhil Program at Bangladesh University of Professionals (BUP). He was also an Associate Faculty at Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. Dr. Alam has extensive teaching experience, including five years as an Assistant Professor of Global Health at the University of Tampa and a year-long postdoctoral fellowship in Occupational Medicine at the University of South Florida. He led the Diarrhea Control Center, a joint initiative by ICDDR, B and the Saudi MOH under the WHO Program, for five years. His administrative roles include leading the COVID-19 Program at Baltimore City Health Department, directing the Department of Public Health & Safety at Dubai Health Authority, and heading the Occupational Health Program at the Supreme Council of Health in Qatar. Dr. Alam has published 25 journal papers, 40 conference papers, and 8 book chapters, securing multiple research grants. Dr. Alam holds a PhD in Health Promotion from North America, a Post Doc in Occupational Medicine and an MSPH from the University of South Florida. He earned his MD in Internal Medicine from Johns Hopkins Hospital and an MBBS from Dhaka Medical College.

Dr. Sabuktagin Rahman

Associate Professor, Department Of Public Health

Dr Sabuktagin Rahman is an Associate Professor at the Department of Public Health, American International University-Bangladesh (AIUB). His career in public health spans over 22 years involved in academia, research and the development sector. His area of interest is public health nutrition with emphasis in micronutrients, anemia, dietary assessment, epidemiology, biostatistics, surveys, surveillance, experimental studies, mixed-methods studies, health programs, teaching, training and academic supervision. Predominantly as the lead author, he published more than 40 original research articles in the high-end peer reviewed journals (citations>600, h-index 11). Prior to joining AIUB, he had worked for the BRAC James P. Grant School of Public Health, BRAC University, Griffith University, ICDDR,B Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition and Save the Children. He received research grants amounting to nearly 4 million USD from UNICEF, USAID, EU/UKAID, CARE International and Nestle Foundation. Dr Rahman led several national activities at the policy level and helped the GoB for formulation of health and nutrition policies and the national capacity building.

Afroza Sultana

Afroja Shoma achieved Masud Khan Gold Medal for securing 1st class 1st position in M.S.S. final examination in the Dept. of Mass Communication and Journalism, University of Dhaka in 2008. She completed her B.S.S from the same department in 2007. Afroja Shoma is a journalism and communication educator with 16 years of experience in journalism and media that blends diverse platforms— radio, TV & newspaper. Including international news outlets BBC News Bangla and Deutsche Welle (DW), she worked with several other Bangladeshi radio, TV and newspapers such as Radio Today, Desh TV, Jamuna TV, Dhaka Tribune, Focus Bangla and Prothom Alo. Hundreds of her reports were aired and published by BBC Bangla, Deutsche Welle, Radio Today, Focus Bangla and Prothom Alo. She gained her experience as a news broadcaster (field reporting, desk reporting, news moderation, editing, translation and interviewing) at BBC News Bangla while she acquired skills as guest Editor at Deutsche Welle. Besides, she worked as the regular talk show presenter at Desh TV’s flagship talk show ‘Desher Kotha Dosher Kotha’ for one and half years from November 2020 to March 2022. She is an enlisted program presenter at the Bangladesh Television since 2008. Ms. Shoma is a poet, essayist and gender & media researcher who authored six books. Her book, a collection of essays, on gender and media titled ‘Beshya O Bidushir Golpo’ created a mentionable vibe in the community. Her research works have been published by Routledge’s journal India Review and other Bangladeshi journals. She presented her research papers in local and international conferences and webinars. Afroja Shoma participated in dozens of gender-talk as trainer, speaker and discussant in home and abroad. Her columns on gender and media have been published in BBC Bangla, Prothom Alo, Channel I, Desh Rupantor, Daily Samakal, Daily Sangbad among other outlets.

Dr. Prodhan Mahbub Ibna Seraj

Dr. Prodhan Mahbub Ibna Seraj has been working as an Associate Professor at the Department of English, American International University Bangladesh (AIUB). He completed his Ph.D. in Teaching English as a Second Language (TESL) at the Faculty of Education, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM), and M. A in Applied Linguistics & ELT from the University of Dhaka. He has achieved the BEST POSTGRADUATE STUDENT AWARD (Ph.D. program) at the 66th UTM Convocation for his outstanding research work. He is particularly interested in how technology could assist English Language Teaching (ELT). He published 51 research articles, chapters and conference papers in prestigious national and international peer reviewed journals, including Scopus and Web of Science indexed, e.g., Heliyon (Elsevier), Journal of Psycholinguistic Research (Springer), Language Testing in Asia (Elsevier), International Journal of Sustainability in Higher Education (Emerald), Sustainability (MDPI), Asian EFL Journal, MEXTESOL Journal (MEXTESOL, Mexico), International Journal of Interactive Mobile Technologies (Kassel University Press GmbH, Germany), etc. He has reviewed 212 manuscripts of 51 different international journals, mostly indexed in Scopus and Web of Science. Dr. Md. Asif Kamal

Dr. Md. Asif Kamal is an Associate Professor working in the Department of English, American International University-Bangladesh (AIUB) since September 2009. He completed his MA in English from Jahangirnagar University and now teaches English literature and language courses. He has been in teaching career for the last 15 years. He is also involved in research activities. Several of his research articles are published in different referred national and international journals. He contributed as a book chapter writer in The Routledge Handbook of English Language Education in Bangladesh published by Routledge in 2021. He also co-authored a book titled English for Academic Purposes 2: Essay and Report Writing Module which is an English language book for English classes in higher education institutions of Bangladesh published in 2017 by University Grant Commission of Bangladesh and supported by British Council under TELSHEB project. He is also a trained master trainer of this project. He is an alumni of International Visitors Leadership Program (IVLP) 2023 run by American Embassy Bangladesh and funded by State Department of the USA. He presented papers in different local and international conferences in Bangladesh, Australia, Malaysia, Thailand, Turkey, Russia, India and Nepal. Dr. Arifatul Kibria

Associate Professor, Faculty , Department Of Social Science

Dr. Arifatul Kibria is a feminist scholar who actively supports and promotes the rights and interests of marginalized and disadvantaged communities. She aims to amplify the voices of Indigenous and minority communities through an educational framework that incorporates decolonial and Indigenist perspectives. She holds the position of Associate Professor in the Department of Social Sciences within the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences at American International University-Bangladesh. She has diverse academic interests, encompassing sociological theories, gender studies, governance, social change and mobility, migration, and climate change. In 2002 and 2001, respectively, she obtained her Master of Social Sciences (MSS) and Bachelor of Social Sciences (BSS) degrees in the Department of Sociology from the University of Dhaka. In 2011, she earned her PhD in social structure, stratification, and inequality from the Department of Sociology at Renmin University of China. She has been teaching in private universities since 2011. Her hobby is to counsel the vulnerable to motivate them to regain their confidence.

Dr. Md. Taufiqul Islam

Dr. Md. Taufiqul Islam (Mithil) is a Professor, and has been teaching at the Faculty of Arts & Social Sciences, American International University –Bangladesh (AIUB). He received his bachelor and master’s degrees from the Jahangirnagar University, Dhaka. Later on, Prof. Dr. Taufiq was awarded the Japanese government scholarship (Monbugakusho). He got a second master’s from Shimane University in 2002, and a Ph. D from the Tottori University in 2005. In 2006-07, he was awarded postdoctoral fellowship program at the Asia Pacific Research Center, Kobe Gakuin University, Japan. Later, in 2007-09, he was awarded the JSPS fellowship at the Kyoto University, Japan. He was a USA State fellow in 2011. He was also a visiting fellow at the Kyoto University in 2012. He has several publications in various academic journals. Prof. Dr. Taufiq is a elected cultural secretary of the Japanese Universities Alumni Association in Bangladesh (JUAAB) since 2022. He is the founder of ADARE ALO (Educational and Welfare Non-profit organization in Brahmanbaria), and also a founder board of trustee, University of Brahmanbaria. Prof. Dr. Taufiq is a life member of JSPS Alumni Association in Bangladesh.

Dr. Ashrafuzzaman Khan

Dr. Ashrafuzzaman Khan is working as an Assistant Professor at American International University–Bangladesh. In 2020, he completed his PhD in Social Work and Social Policy at the University of Ulster, United Kingdom, achieving the exceptional distinction of a “straight pass at the doctoral level with no corrections, amendments, or revisions”—a rare accomplishment. Additionally, he holds dual Master’s degrees in Anthropology and a Bachelor’s degree in the same field. Notably, he attained a Master of Science (MSc) in Cultural and Social Anthropology from the University of Amsterdam (UvA), the Netherlands, and a Bachelor of Social Science and a Master of Social Science in Anthropology from the University of Dhaka, Bangladesh. In addition to his teaching profession, his distinguished track record encompasses the stewardship of numerous research initiatives, underscored by a proficiency in employing mixed methods approaches. Dr. B M Sajjad Hossain is serving as an Associate Professor at the Department of Social Science. He is a public policy expert. He has been engaged in teaching and research for more than 15 years. Dr. Iffat Tasnim Haque

Dr. Iffat Tasnim Haque is serving as an Assistant Professor at the Department of Public Health. She completed Bachelor’s degree and First Master’s degree from Department of Microbiology, University of Dhaka. She obtained her second master’s in public health from James P Grant, School of Public Health, BRAC University. After that, she accomplished her third Masters and Doctor of Philosophy from Japan Advanced Institute of Science and Technology, Japan. she worked as postdoctoral research fellow under JSPS (Japan Society of Promotion of Science) for around 6 months.
She has multidisciplinary professional experience which covers the research, academic and corporate sector. I has skills of Project management, proposal and grant writing, report and academic paper writing and activities related to University course curriculum.
She supervised many masters student’s thesis and also co-supervised several research projects. She has been interested in qualitative research, health promotion, global health, epidemiology etc.

Maimun Ur Rashid Mustafa

Maimun Ur Rashid Mustafa is the Managing Partner and Group CEO at Renboe Enterprises, a 50+ year-old diversified business conglomerate with over 20+ partner companies in its portfolio. Maimun holds and has held leadership positions in a number of trade organizations. He is the Executive Director for Global Chamber Dhaka; the Country Desk Representative for the Asia Pacific Trade Agreement Chamber of Commerce and Industry (APTACCI); and is serving as the Joint Convener for the Dhaka Chamber of Commerce and Industry’s (DCCI) Standing Committee for Economic Diplomacy and Regional Integration. Previously Maimun was the Executive Director of the Indonesia Bangladesh Chamber of Commerce and Industry and Promoting Director of the Brazil Bangladesh Chamber of Commerce and Industry. He is also an avid columnist and has his articles featured in local and international media.Presently, Maimun is also a Consultant for Healthtrip, the largest health travel platform in the world. Maimun completed his O levels and A levels from the Aga Khan School Dhaka where he studied on scholarship. Maimun then went on to continue his undergraduate studies at AIUB. He achieved a 3.97 in his BSS in Economics degree from the Department of Economics. Apart from his academic pursuits, Maimun was the trainer of English debate and eventually was selected as the VP (English Debate) of AIUB Oratory Club. Maimun led AIUB’s debate team to their first debate outside of Bangladesh in the prestigious Oxford and Cambridge IV Debate Competitions held in the UK. He also led AIUB to their first World Universities Debate Championship participation in Chennai, India in the same year of 2013. Ms Afrin Mahbub

Ms Afrin Mahbub is a Programme Associate (Research) at the Centre for Policy Dialogue (CPD), a civil society think tank promoting inclusive policymaking in Bangladesh. Her research interest lies in environment, trade, FDI, education, and unemployment. Ms Mahbub has undertaken research projects from the Embassy of Japan in Bangladesh, the Embassy of Denmark, the Embassy of Netherlands in Bangladesh, the International Growth Centre (IGC), and the Boston University Global Development Policy Center. Before joining CPD, she worked as an Undergraduate Research Assistant at the Bangladesh Institute of Development Studies (BIDS). Recently, Ms Mahbub concluded a research project titled “Reducing Air and Plastic Pollution- Towards Green Cities in Bangladesh” where she has conducted primary research on the perceptions individuals hold regarding air and plastic pollution in Dhaka, Bangladesh. She has also co-authored a book titled “Bangladesh-Japan Partnership for the Next Development Journey” where she has observed the trade relationship between Bangladesh and Japan alongside Japanese development assistance provided to Bangladesh, Japanese investments in Bangladesh, and explored various ways Bangladesh can elevate its human capital in light of 4IR with assistance from Japan. She graduated summa cum laude from American International University- Bangladesh (AIUB), earning a Bachelor of Social Science in Economics with the highest distinction and is currently pursuing her Master of Science in Economics at North South University (NSU).

Dr. Tasdik M Tasdik Hasan

Dr. Tasdik M Tasdik Hasan received the Chancellor’s Award from the President of Bangladesh for academic excellence in his Masters in Public Health from American International University-Bangladesh, where he also earned the Vice-Chancellor’s Gold Medal and graduated Summa cum Laude. He holds a Post Graduate Diploma in Disaster Management from the University of Dhaka, achieving top scores. Dr. Tasdik is a distinguished medical doctor and researcher, was serving as a Research Investigator in the Infectious Disease Division at the International Centre for Diarrhoeal Disease Research, Bangladesh (icddr,b). He has been with icddr,b since 2015, focusing on designing research, writing grant proposals, data analysis, manuscript preparation, and field supervision. Currently, he was conducting a pilot RCT on digital mental health in low-resource settings and contributing to Project COSTAR with the University of Liverpool, aiming to reduce depression among African refugees. His research interests include common mental disorders, mental health promotion, stigma reduction, mental health policy, medical education, and mHealth. Currently, he is designing a digital mental health intervention to reduce depressive symptoms among adults attending primary health care facilities in Bangladesh as PhD student at Monash University, Melbourne, Australia. Dr. Tasdik leads various voluntary organizations, promoting research and leadership among medical students, and is a GOBESHONA Young Researcher Fellow at ICCCAD. Recognized for his innovative leadership, he aspires to establish himself as a global health leader, representing Bangladesh on the world stage.

Farhana Safa

She was a student of the Fall 2010-2011 session in the MPH program at AIUB, where she earned a Master’s degree in Clinical Public Health Specializing in Mental Health and Addiction. Registered with the Ontario College of Social Workers and social service workers she has expertise in psycho-social rehabilitation and therapeutic modalities such as CBT, MI, and Mindfulness. She provides culturally competent therapy to clients with severe mental health and addiction issues, including 2SLGBTQ individuals. She is knowledgeable in HCCA, PHIPPA, and the Ontario Mental Health Act, and is skilled in crisis management, client safety,  and utilizing community resources of appropriate referrals.

Mohammad Mosiur Rahman

Mohammad Mosiur Rahman is a PhD candidate at the Department of English and Communication, Hong Kong Polytechnic University. He also serves as a senior lecturer at the Department of English and Humanities, University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh (ULAB). His research focuses on critical theories of language, power, and social class, exploring topics such as language policy, ideologies, and stakeholder identities. Mosiur has published extensively in international peer-reviewed journals and is committed to promoting anti-neoliberal and decolonial education. Dr Md. Nasir Uddin

Dr Md. Nasir Uddin  conducted a Ph.D. in Economics from the National Institute of Development Administration, Bangkok, Thailand. He successfully completed his  Master of Economics in International Business Economics from the University of the Thai Chamber of Commerce, Bangkok, Thailand. Moreover his undergraduation was from American International University-Bangladesh in Economics. In his career he worked as a Researcher (Research Institute for Policy Evaluation and Design) at University of the Thai Chamber of Commerce, Bangkok, Research Associate at Centre for Policy Dialogue, Dhaka, Bangladesh and  Assistant Professor (Department of Economics), AIUB. Irfana Farooque

Irfana Farooque started her career during student life at AIUB. She was very active in extracurricular activities.  She was an organizer and painter of the AIUB Arts Club (one of the oldest clubs in AIUB).
